Church body celebrates foundation day

Dibrugarh, Dec 2: Dibrugarh Inter Church Forum (DICF) celebrated its 10th foundation day with a day-long programme here at Bishop House today. The programme organized on the occasion was attended by hundreds of Christians from different churches.

A large number of religious heads like Head of Buddhist Mostery, Jyotigar, Acharya Bhikku Karu Sastri, Md Faman Hussain who represented the Sadar Kazi, Dibrugarh. Zillur Rahman Baig, and Head of the Gurudwara, Giani Gurdial Singh Cheema graced the occasion as guests.The programme started with the hoisting of DICF flag by the Bishop of the Dibrugarh Diocese, Rt. Rev. Bishop Aind which was followed by prayer from Fr. Nicholias, the Parish Priest.

Various religious heads released bunch of colorful balloons in the air which symbolizes Peace and Unity.  The Bishop and Bhikku Karu Sastri and Mula Hussain and Giani Gurdial Singh Cheema , jointly planted tree sapling . Similarly Rev. Kawa, Sr Superior of St. Marrys’ and Sr. Superior of LFS together planted another Sapling, on the occasion.

The president of DICF, Dr Lamkholal Doungel said, “Those tree planted together on DICF foundation day, symbolizes as to how we should grow together in unity.” Doungel further stated, “We have invited religious heads of   different community in order to strengthen our relationship and understanding, the DICF motto to uphold unity and healthy relationship with other religions.”

Following the presidential address, all the speakers and guests in their deliberations highly appreciated the initiative of the DICF for bringing different religions together and thereby encouraging unity, peace and understanding which is the need of the hour.

They all in unison emphasized on the need for more such programme. The day being the Asom Divas, the gathering on the occasion also sung the state anthem “O Mor Apur Desh” led by St.Joseph’s Semirians, students and teachers of St. Marry’s school respectively. The DICF took out peace and harmony rally from Cathedral Church of Dibrugarh to Tha Chariali.
