Chutia Jati Students' Union demands ST status for Chutia community

GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), October 25: The activists of All Golaghat district Chutia Jati Students’ Union, with the cooperation with Asom Chutia Jati Sanmilan, staged a two-hour sit-in near the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Golaghat on Tuesday to demand ST status for the Chutia  community.

More than 200 activists of Chutia Jati Students’ Union, Chutia Jati Sanmilan, Yuba Sanmilan,  and Mahila Sanmilan took part in the protest and shouted various slogans against the rendra Modi-led BJP government as well as Assam Government. Taking part in the protest programme, the working president of All Assam Chutia Jati Students’ Union, Madhu Madhab Saikia said that in the last Assembly election, the BJP promised to provide ST status to the community, but after coming to power in Assam, the BJP forget all the poll promises.

The Chutia Jati Students’ Union as well as the people of the Chutia community warned the government that if it did taken any fruitful steps towards providing ST status to this community, the BJP would face the consequences in the future.  The protest programme was carried out under the leadership of Golaghat district Chutia Jati Students’ Union president Mohen Bora.
