Chutia students' body stages dhar demanding ST status

GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), July 17: The activists of All Golaghat district Chutia Jati Students’ Union staged a two-hour sit-in near the Golaghat Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday for demanding ST status for the Chutia community.

More than 200 activists of Chutia Jati Students’ Union took part in the protest and shouted various slogans against the rendra Modi-led BJP government as well as the State Government. The president of the organization, Mohen Bora said during the Assembly election the rendra Modi government had promised to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the community, but after coming to power in Assam, the BJP forget everything. They had deprived the community by making false promises.

Further, he slammed the Sarbanda Sonowal government and said that if the government did not take any fruitful step in providing ST status to the Chutia community, the BJP would face the consequences in the forthcoming elections. Later, a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat demanding ST status to the Chutia community.
