JOYSAGAR, July 11: The All Sivasagar District Joutha Sangrami Mancha (SDJSM), under the leadership of the Sivasagar district AASU, staged protest in Sivasagar Railway Station on Wednesday to demand CID investigation into the suspected rape and murder of an Assam Agriculture University (AAU) student. Radha Kumari, the daughter of Tara Devi of Lachit Nagar near ASTC Tiniali, was travelling by the Kamakhya intercity train on Tuesday to her grandmother’s house at Farkating under Golaghat district. But she was found dead inside one of the toilets of the train on the same by other passengers in Simaluguri Railway Junction here. It is suspected that this meritorious student was murdered brutally after being raped by unidentified miscreants.

Simaluguri Police recovered her body and sent it for post mortem to Joysagar Civil Hospital on Tuesday. Radha Kumari was a brilliant student who passed her HSLC exam with 88 per cent and HS exam with 85 per cent. She then decided to study Agricultural Science at AAU, Jorhat.

Sivasagar district JSM and AASU activists criticized the security measures of NF Railway, especially in case of female passengers. There is no CCTV camera in Sivasagar Station as well as in Simaluguri Junction. RPF personnel are often seen playing cards in the railway station premises while neglecting their duty. Miscreants take advantages of such a situation, alleged the AASU leaders during the protest. Hundreds of local people also joined in the protest to demand justice for the meritorious student.
