CID raids IMFL bonded warehouse in Sivasagar

Joysagar, March 7: A high-level team led by CID DSP J. Sinha and assisted by officials of the Assam Excise Commissioner Office, Guwahati, and the sleuths of Assam Economic Offence Investigation Bureau, has been conducting special operation in Sivasagar town from Tuesday.  As per reports, a foreign liquor wholesale bonded warehouse situated in AT Road, Amolapatty area - M/s DPM Baruah Bonded Warehouse - had been allegedly duping the Assam Excise Department while depositing excise revenue as per Assam Excise Law, to the tune of around Rs 1 crore.

Following government instructions, a team of CID inspected the warehouse. Besides, the investigation team seized many computer sets and important documents. The CID conducted this operation under 120 (B)/ 406/420 of IPC rule and the written direction from the Assam Excise Commissioner vide no- 369/2017/42/69 U/ S 2000/1/31. The owner of the warehouse as well as the employees and the accounts officers are being interrogated.

Earlier, in July 2017, the Assam Excise department and Assam Economic Offence Investigation Department with the help of the CID, had conducted another search operation in this warehouse and at that time the Excise Commissioner had sealed the warehouse for three months. This warehouse has allegedly not paid government revenue to the tune of around Rs 1 crore and has also committed other offences.
