CID team visits Golaghat to probe Rongajan incident

GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), Dec 7: A CID team comprising three officials visited Golaghat district on Wednesday.

According to sources, the CID team arrived in Golaghat on Tuesday evening. The team visited Golaghat for investigating the Assam-galand border violence which hit Rongajan area under Golaghat police station. ga miscreants burnt the houses and destroyed agricultural crops of Assamese people and brutally killed people living in the Assam-galand border area at Uriamghat. Later various organizations came out on the road and started protesting by blocking NH-39.  

On August 19, 2014, a policeman was injured and a police vehicle and three trucks were set ablaze in Golaghat by a mob that blocked NH-37 protesting against police action at Rangajan. On August 20, 2014,  three persons were killed and six others were injured in fresh police firing under the leadership of Superintendent of Police of Golaghat, Siladitya Chetia. Following the incident, curfew was imposed in the town and Rongajan.

Later, the Assam Government handed over the probe of the incident to CID. On Wednesday, the CID team visited Golaghat for inquiry into the Rongajan incident, sources said.
