CII welcomes introduction of Bill on Ease of Doing Business

GUWAHATI, June 6: Assam State Council of CII welcomes the introduction of Ease of Doing Business Bill in the State, recently. The decision of the new Government to table this Bill in its very first day of the session sends much needed positive sigl to all the prospective investors. It also shows the clear intention of the Government working towards the growth and promotion of industries in the state.

Apart from the Single Window Agency Committee who will be responsible for all clearances, the Government decision to set up the Assam Bureau of Investment Promotion (ABIP) under the Chairmanship of the Chief Minister of Assam is very much welcomed by CII. CII is confident that with the introduction of the dedicated Centralized Web Portal where registration applications will be received and processed online, the industrialization will be faster. The legislation provides specific time limit within which approval has to be given including a provision of “Deemed Clearances” in the event of failure of the Single Window Agency to issue clearances within the prescribed time limit. SBI will be the single e-payment gateway to facilitate online transaction under this portal.

S.K. Barua, Chairman, CII Assam State Council and Director Fince, NRL said that this will be a significant step towards promotion of industrial activity and growth of the state.  While deliberating in the CII Assam State Council meeting held on June 4 for the first time at Dibrugarh he said that this legislation will dramatically change the industrial climate in this region and is a very welcome move particularly for the prospective investors for setting up downstream manufacturing activities from products of BCPL.

Prior to the council meeting, CII had a fruitful discussion with Dibrugarh University on Industry Academy Connect. Prof. Alak Kr. Buragohain, Vice Chancellor of the Dibrugarh University urged CII members to come forward in bridging the gap between the industry and academy. Apart from other dignitaries Manoj Jalan, Vice Chair, CII Assam State Council and Maging Director, Purvi Discovery (P) Ltd, Jahbi Phookan, Vice Chair, CII Assam State Council and Director, Jungle Travels (P) Ltd. were also present in the discussion.
