Citizen body demands early start of trains on BG

Correspondent

Silchar, June 10: The Silchar-Lumding Broad Gauge Rupayan Sangram Committee (SLBGRSC) organized a protest demonstration today demanding the starting of passenger train services in the newly laid BG track. They also held a meeting with the deputy engineer (construction) of the Silchar railway division to discuss the matter.

After waiting for almost 16 years, Silchar-Lumding BG project has been completed for the last 3 months. Yet, the train services are yet to begin. The people of Barak Valley are eagerly waiting to avail themselves of the services on BG line. Their expectation is to have direct train links from here to Guwahati, Kolkata, Delhi and Cheni for easy and fast journey. Besides, the movement of trains on BG will make the connectivity with northeastern states with rail head also easy. It is to be noted that the railway services for Guwahati and beyond will be through Patharkola bypass track. The committee members wanted to know the justification for taking the trains from here through Lumding once the bypass has been made operatiol. It is expected as the members felt the railway authorities concerned will give due consideration to their demand.
