SILCHAR, Jan 3: garik Swartharaksha Sangram Parishad has been active since its inception in 2009 to create awareness among people of each ward of this town under municipality for safe and hygienic way to dispose of wastes and garbage. It has been involved in on foot drive, cleanliness campaign as well as holding workshops and street dramas on the basic theme of maintaining ecological balance. The emphasis has been on living a cleaner and hygienic life.
Haridas Dutta, general secretary of the Sangram Parishad, thinks the active cooperation of Silchar municipal board can make this awareness campaign more effective and successful. Besides, participation of people in general and its acceptance in society can bring about the desired result. He said in order to dispose of the wastes, plastic cups and pieces of papers from the roadside shops, dustbins have been placed at important points from Capital traffic island to Rangirkhari by the Parishad. He regretted at the fact that despite dustbins, at many places, garbage and wastes have been thrown in the nearby drains or on roadside.
Haridas Dutta blamed it on the lack of public awareness. This is more harmful than negligence. It is known to all that wastes or garbage or refuses which are left undisposed of and continue to pile up are not only the germ breeder but also home to various insects that cause diseases. Keeping with its tradition, Sangram Parishad has again decided to carry on the awareness campaign. On Monday, Sangram Parishad members as planned will visit the roadside shops and business establishments and advise them to place the dustbins before their concerns for proper disposal of wastes.
The awareness campaign will cover all the 28 wards under the municipality of this town. On this occasion, all the ward commissioners and members of the municipal board entrusted with the responsibility have been requested to be present during the launch of the cleanliness drive. Haridas Dutta said that the campaign would begin at 5 pm of January 4 and it would begin from the tri-junction of Itkhola market place. Conveying their decision on the move from tomorrow, Haridas Dutta has sought the presence of Niharendra rayan Thakur, chairman of municipal board, which will go a long way in boosting up the morale of the members of the Sangram Parishad and give a dimension and direction to their noble campaign.
