Citizens' body calls on CM

SHILLONG, July 24: A delegation of Rongjeng Area Citizens’ Forum (RACF) from East Garo Hills recently submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma at his official residence here on the various problems affecting the area.
In the memorandum, the forum demanded that the Rongjeng CHC be recognized as a full-fledged first referral unit, upgrade the administrative unit of Rongjeng to a full- fledged civil sub-division, set up of MeECL sub-station at Rongjeng and provide fincial assistance to the schools damaged by the recent hailstorm, among others.
Stating that Rongjeng constituency, which has a total population of 52, 584, is comprised of 189 villages with around 9,454 households. RACF president Builthon Sangma and general secretary Auline D Sangma stated in the memorandum, “While the efforts and dedication of your (Mukul) government towards development is commendable, you may also appreciate to consider the fact that Rongjeng is lacking behind in the development front with little resources and idequate infrastructures.”
On healthcare, the forum said, “We would like to request that Rongjeng CHC be recognized as a full-fledged referral unit with posting of competent and sincere medical officers and upgrade the present CHC with the required infrastructures and facilities.”
On his part, the Chief Minister assured the delegation that he will examine and look into their 14-point demands sympathetically.
