Citizens stage protest against government's 'anti-Bengali' attitude

Silchar, May 26: The government’s anti-Bengali mindset has been irking a large section of people. The two recent notifications issued by the Central Government may endanger the very existence of the people belonging to Bengali community. In this regard, a number of renowned persolities staged a protest demonstration before the statue of Khudi Ram Bose at Club Road of this town on Friday.

The proposed Citizenship (Amendment Bill), 2016 which was introduced by rendra Modi government for the first time in December 2014, stated that the government will grant citizenship not only to the Bengali Hindus from Bangladesh, but also all Hindus, Parsis, Christians, Buddhists and Sikhs of Pakistan and Afghanistan, who are seeking refuge in India “due to religious persecution of fear of religious persecution”. The citizens’ protest was held to raise the question why the state government of Assam is not implementing it and is silent about it. Among others who actively took part in the demonstration included advocate Dhruva Kumar Saha, Sat Koiri, Basudev Sharma and Haran Dey.
