Citizenship (Amendment) Bill To Figure In BJP Manifesto

GUWAHATI: The BJP president Amit Shah on Sunday announced that the party would include the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill as one of the prime agendas of its manifesto for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in the country.

Shah also asserted that the BJP would ensure the passing of the CAB in both Houses of the Parliament after the Lok Sabha polls.

“Only the CAB will prevent demographic changes and safeguard the identity of Assam. But the Opposition Congress, AGP and Trinamool Congress have engaged themselves in spreading misinformation against the Bill. The BJP got the CAB passed in the Lok Sabha. But the Bill failed to get passed in the Rajya Sabha as the BJP did not have the numbers,” Shah said after participating in Bhumi Pujan ceremony to start construction of the head office of Assam BJP at Basistha Chariali here on Sunday.

Asking the Opposition parties not to “rejoice too much” for not getting the CAB passed in the Rajya Sabha, Shah predicted that the Narendra Modi government will again come to power at the Centre in 2019.

“The equation in the Rajya Sabha will change after the Lok Sabha polls when we can pass the CAB easily. The CAB is our national commitment and we will fulfill it,” Shah said.
