City Police finish with a victory

GUWAHATI, Aug 17: Mahara Athletic club finished the ‘A’ Division soccer league campaign with a defeat against City Police at the Nehru stadium here today. City Police won the game by 2-1 .

The result of the game was not as important for Mahara as they already booked a berth in the Super Division soccer League for the next season. This time two teams will be promoted in the Super Division and Mahara along with Assam Police Blues confirmed their entry in the elite league before this game.  However it was do or die match for City Police as they needed a win to avoid relegation. L Hmar of City Police scored the first goal of the game in the 10th minutes and he consolidated the lead five minutes later with another goal. Mahara returned one in the second half through captain Samujjal Rava.

With this victory City Police finished the league with 7 points from six outings. Mahara earned 12 points from same number of games.
