City to celebrate 116 anniversary of Swami Vivekanda

SHILLONG, April 26: The city will be celebrating the 116th anniversary of Swami Vivekanda’s visit to Shillong. Swami Vivekanda, the great patriot saint of India, visited Shillong at the very beginning of the twentieth century. He delivered the last public lecture of his life on April 27, 1901 on the occasion of the iuguration of Quinton Memorial Hall, at the same place where today stands the well-known Ramakrish Mission Vivekanda Cultural Centre. The 116th anniversary of Swami Vivekanda’s visit to Shillong will be commemorated through a three-day programme, starting with the annual function of Computer Training and Language Units to be held in two sessions on Thursday. Programmes are also lined-up for April 29 and 30.
