City to host baseball meets

GUWAHATI, Jan 13: Assam Baseball Association will host two events during the later part of this year in Guwahati. The Presidential Cup Baseball championship will be held in the middle of the year while the newly introduced Indian Baseball Premier League (IBPL), on the lines of IPL and ISL, will kick off in December. Addressing media persons, secretary of the Assam Basketball Association Ashma Begam today said that altogether five teams will take part in the President cup while in IBPL the number of participating teams will be eight. Ashma also added that the IBPL will be a franchise-based tourment where one team from Guwahati will also take part. The media briefing was also attended by SK Mahendroo, Secretary General of Amateur Baseball Federation India (ABFI). In a brief speech, he said that ABFI is ready to develop baseball infrastructure in Assam if Assam Government provides land for it.
