City to host Youth tiol Basketball C'ship

GUWAHATI, May 16: 32nd Youth (U-16) tiol Basketball Championship will be held in the city from June 12-19. Assam Basketball Association will host the meet.

Addressing in a media conference Gaurav Gogoi, the Member of Parliament and the chairman of the organizing committee, said, around 50 teams, including boys and girls, will participate in the tourment which will be held in two venues- Karmaveer vin Chandra Bordoloi AC Indoor Stadium at Sarusajai  and NF Railway Indoor stadium, Maligaon. He also added, around 50 probable will be selected from this meet for the forthcoming Intertiol FIBA U-16 Championship which will be held in Myanmar.

Pulak Goswami, the president and Mukut Medhi, the secretary of the Assam Basketball Association were also present in the media briefing. Regarding the host team's preparation Medhi told the media, " Kamini Sarma will be the chief coach and the preparation of Assam team for both boys and girls are in right place. " In the girls section we have a very good team and I am optimistic that the side will be able to win the title. On the other hand we are expecting a podium finish for boys team also,". He also informed the media that the basketball court at the R G Baruah Sports complex will return by the end of this year. It may be mentioned here that the basketball court of R G Baruah Sports complex was demolished at the time of constructing the new infrastructure for the 33rd tiol Games which was hosted by Assam. "Recently we meet Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who is also the president of the Assam Olympic Association, and requested him to relay the basketball court at the R G Baruah Sports complex and he assured us that it will return by the end of this year," said Medhi"
