Civic polls held peacefully in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR, February 9: More than 69 per cent voters cast their votes in Monday’s elections for Sivasagar Municipal Board in the 14 wards, officials from the Sivasagar Election Office said.

With the end of civic polls, the average voter turnout in the civic polls for zira Municipal Board was 70 per cent.  Highest voter turnout of 76 per cent was reported from Amguri Municipal Board.

The polls were held peacefully and not n a single incident of violence in polling booths was reported, the official said.

Candidates of both BJP and the Congress contested in all the wards in these elections. Both the party took these polls seriously as newly–elected MP from Jorhat constituency, Kamakhya Prasad Tassa of BJP and new cabinet minister of Gogoi government, Sarat Borkotoky, including APCC president Anjan Dutta took active part in campaigning. Though both the parties are claiming victory in these polls, on February 12 the picture will be clear.
