Civic problems plague Dhubri town

From a Correspondent

DHUBRI, December 19:  Dhubri town is the administrative headquarter of Dhubri district and it inherited its legacy since 1873 when AC Campbell set up the district headquarter here. The town is surrounded by rivers on three sides- River Gadadhar in the north and River Brahmaputra in the east and south.

The magnificent bungalows constructed during the British regime on the banks of Brahmaputra in the eastern part of the town have now become the residences of the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and Divisiol Forest officer. The town is considered to be a place of pilgrimage in lower Assam and it attracts pilgrims and tourists.  But now this town is being plagued by various problems like deplorable condition of connecting roads, uncountable auto rickshaws and e-rickshaws plying, garbage dumping, traffic jam, vendor market on roadside and vehicular traffic jam.

Knee-deep potholes can be seen in most of the connecting roads like Station Road, AMC Road, Dhubri to Dharmasala road, Nuniapatti to Balurchar road, Charmen road and Dhubri to Gauripur via Jhagrarpar road due to which frequent road accidents are taking place.

There are about thousands of auto rickshaws and e-rickshaws plying daily on these pathetic connecting roads. This apart, garbage dumping system in the town is not systematic which causes air pollution and unhealthy environment in the town.

Conscious people of the town as well as various NGOs and social organizations have urged the authorities concerned to take appropriate steps to improve the civic amenities in the town.
