Clamor growing for subdivision status for Sarthebari

BARPETA, Sept 19: Thousands of people from greater Sarthebari area in Barpeta district dispatched individual letters to the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Revenue Minister-cum-chairman of the Cabinet subcommittee for formation of new subdivision in the State.

The letter stated that in spite of severe need and tremendous demand from the people of this area to establish a civil subdivision at Sarthebari, the Government has not paid any attention. Besides, the proposed area fulfils all the criteria set by the Government to establish a subdivision.

So it was requested that the Government will consider the 45-year-old demand of the people and felicitate accessible and easy administration for the poor and backward area.

Responding to a call by the Sarthebari Subdivision Demand Committee, the people from all walks of life joined the campaign to fulfill their long-standing demand. Students from several educatiol institutions, including Sarthebari Higher Secondary School, participated in the campaign overwhelmingly.

Response of the people right from the layman to the elite and cultured one was spontaneous in making the campaign a grand success.

President of the Sarthebari Subdivision Demand Committee Banikanta Bhuya and one of the secretaries Prahlad Talukdar moved along the area and convinced the people to submit such individual letter.

Talking to this correspondent, both the leaders informed that the motive behind such move is to entangle more and more people and remind the Government about the vexed issue. They expressed hope that the government will definitely consider their long-pending demand this time.
