Clamour for bravery award to Camellia

Shillong, July 11: The youth organization of Malki, along with North East Regiol Domestic Workers’ Movement (NERDWM), on Tuesday urged the State Government to propose the me of 12-year-old Camellia Kharbangar for the tiol Bravery Award for her brave and courageous act in saving her own sister from the blazing fire that had engulfed their house on 6th July.
Addressing reporters here, Seng Samla, Malki, president Junestar Kharbuli said, “She (Camellia) has brought laurels to our locality and we as residents of Malki are proud of her and feel that that the Meghalaya Government should propose or include her me for the tiol Bravery Award for saving her younger sister.”
Camellia is a student of Class VII at Loreto Convent, Shillong.
Further, the youth organization will organise a relief fund camp on 14th July in three different centres to help both the house owners, T Kharbangar and P Kharmalki, both of whom had lost everything in the fire.
The centres to be set up by the youth organisation include one at Bawri Mansion (Dhankheti), Malki point and Kharmalki locality community hall.
The youth organization further issued a stern warning to vehicle owners not to park their vehicles on both sides of the road.
“During the fire incident, the fire truck arrived 15 minutes late due to the irresponsible parking by the vehicle owners. And next time, we as members of the locality will have no choice but to take up the matter with the police department if anyone is found parking their vehicle recklessly,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wanpynhun Kharsyntiew, Programme Coorditor, NERDWM urged the State Government to provide fincial assistance to the affected families.
