Classical music fest begins at IIT-Guwahati

GUWAHATI, May 11: The IIT Guwahati witnessed the kick start of the 4th Intertiol Convention of SPIC MACAY. The iugural ceremony of SPIC MACAY was graced by Governor Padmabha Balakrish Acharya, Director of IIT Guwahati, Dr Gautam Biswas and Dean of Student Affairs, Chandan Mahanta, a press release said.

Governor Acharya addressing the dignitaries said, “This is a very unique opportunity especially for the people of North – East India, to come forward and have an overwhelming experience of witnessing Indian Classical Music and Art’.

He also said that he wholeheartedly supports this movement and wishes to see every Indian child be interested in Indian classical music and art and take part in them’.

He talked about strengthening of the tion, adding, “Empowerment of society is strength for tion.”

The mesmerizing evening began with performances by an intertiolly acclaimed Indian classical flutist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.
