DHUBRI, Feb 28: ‘Clean Dhubri Green Dhubri’ project was launched in Dhubri town and the first meeting was held with Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Ant Lal Gyani in the chair at the DC conference hall on Tuesday. A host of members from leading social organizations and also social groups active on social media appealing for a clean and green Dhubri, participated in the meeting. It was, of late, realized that without the active participation and co-operation of the local people, it was extremely difficult for Dhubri Mubri Municipal Board alone to keep the town clean.  So the project envisaged to involve people to make the Dhubri town free from garbage and transform it into a place for healthy living.

At the onset of the meeting, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Ant Lal Gyani made a fervent appeal all to the participants and extend co-operation to the Dhubri civic body in keeping the town clean as it was not possible for the board alone to do the same. “All the logistic needed for campaigning to create awareness among the people will be provided and in the meantime, five e-rickshaws have been doted by some individuals and organizations which will be used as garbage-carrying vans by re-modelling them,” Gyani added.

Gyani said that it was high time that people should be aware against open throwing of garbage in the street which created an unhygienic condition, adding that some stringent measures would also need to be taken to streamline that mess in the board.

Dhubri District Development Commissioner Mamud Hussan also spoke at a length on various measures that could be taken to make best use of the garbage instead of throwing out them as waste. “We must learn to reduce, re-use and recycle everything by simple methods like making vermin-compost fertilizers which have a huge market in Assam and outside the State,” Hassan added.
