FROM OUR Correspondent

Silchar, Nov 2: Silchar town, the second largest city of the state, is all set for transforming itself into a clean city. District Disaster Magement Authority (DDMA) and Silchar Municipal Board (SMB) have started its noble initiative, ‘Clean Silchar Campaign’ to cleanse the town, under the solid waste magement programme today. Acting on the decision taken at  the meeting held Tuesday last with the three NGOs, Shefali Enterprise, Suryadoy and Neogenesys, for door to door collection of solid waste in the municipal area, S Viswathan, IAS, Deputy Commissioner and Madhumita Choudhury, District Development Commissioner, of  Cachar, along with other dignitaries, came out on the streets to make the first move.

As a starting point, waste was collected from a reputed hotel. The initiative will ensure a sound health and hygienic atmosphere for the residents of the town. The collection of segregated wastes will clean the town off its unhealthy dumping of garbage and solid wastes which people often dispose here and there. Workers have been instructed to collect solid waste from doorsteps and also inform everyone to keep segregated waste ready so as to quicken the collectors’ work. They will collect both dry and wet waste from private homes as well commercial establishments.
