Clean-up operations in Shillong

SHILLONG, Sept 25: Units of Indian Army and CRPF held separate “Swachhta Hi Sewa” programmes at the State Capital on Monday.

As part of the campaign “Swachhta Hi Sewa”, the Indian Army undertook a massive task of cleaning Umshyrpi river and surrounding areas near Rilbong here on Monday.

The tionwide campaign was launched on 15th September by President of India Ram th Kovind at Kanpur.

The army said that the campaign aims to create awareness regarding good hygiene and sanitation so that an improved health standard can be achieved amongst the people of the capital city.

The campaign in the city was launched by Major General SK Dutta, Chief of Staff, Headquaters 101 Area on Saturday. During the campaign, Indian Army personnel along with conservancy staff from station headquarters, Shillong pledged to continue good work in the future.

Meanwhile, the North Eastern Sector (NES) of CRPF also held the “Swachhta Hi Sewa” sanitation programme. Under this campaign, the CRPF cleaned the Polo ground, Polo market and its surround areas adjacent to the 67 Battalion, CRPF headquarters.

Local MLA AL Hek and NES CRPF Inspector General Prakash D took part in the programme by persolly cleaning the areas.
