Cleaning project yet to be completed: KHADC chief

SHILLONG, July 12: Reacting to an RTI finding which stated that that the cleaning drive project of Wahumkhrah sanctioned for Rs.1.35 crore  had been completed, KHADC Chief P N Syiem on Tuesday said that phase-I of the cleaning project is completed however the whole rejuvetion of Wahumkhrah is yet to be completed.

Addressing the newsmen, Syiem said, “The expenditure of Rs. 1.35 crore by the KHADC was not on cleaning drive alone. We have channeled the funds for waste bin, waste trap, proper drains, purchasing of mini trucks for Lapalang and Mawlai.”

He informed that an amount of Rs. 9.40 lakh have also been allotted to five MDCs from Nongthymmai, Laitumkhrah, Jaiaw, Mawkhar and Mawlai.

He, however, said since the MDC from Jaiaw A. Nongrum did not submit a proposal for the scheme he has missed in implementing the scheme in his constituency.

“I want to clarify so that the people will not misunderstand that the amount sanctioned for Rs.1, 35, 00,000 is not just for cleaning drive of Wahumkhrah river but for other purposes as well,” he said.

According to the RTI findings, the amount allotted for each MDC is Rs. 9.40 lakh. However Rs. 31 lakh were allotted to Mawlai Nongpdeng, Syiem said.
