Cleanliness drive in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, June 3: Banjai Cooperative Society, Brahmapara, Kokrajhar town on Wednesday carried out cleanliness drive at Kokrajhar town with a view to bring awareness among the residents in the town on good health and hygiene.

The Circle Officer of Kokrajhar, Ansula Brahma started the cleanliness drive from UN Brahma Bus Stand in the heart of Kokrajhar town. The activists of the society also cleaned up the Shiva temple complex near Kokrajhar Railway Station, Nilkamal Brahma Road, Kokrajhar Town Water Supply Reservoir complex and roads of the town. In his brief iugural speech, Circle Officer said the cleanliness drive carried out by the Banjaifra Cooperative Society was praiseworthy as there had been a revolution in cleaning India under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.  He hoped that the cleanliness drive would make residents aware of the need to keep their town clean.

President of Banjaifra Cooperative Society, Keroni Brahma said they formed the society with a view to bring awareness among the people about health and hygiene. She said there were many families whose source of income depended on sale of of homemade liquor and rearing pigs and they were not aware about the need to keep their surroundings clean. She said that they would bring complete awareness among the people in their areas, asking them to modify their profession and to give importance to cleanliness and hygiene.

The secretary of Banjaifra Cooperative Society, Mondira Brahma said they would try to bring total revolution in people’s attitude towards health. She said the railway authority had issued notice to drive out some residents but they had appealed to the authority to give time for necessary settlement.
