Closure notice served to all illegal saw mills

SHILLONG, Jan 23: The District Forest Officer of the East Khasi Hills (EKH) district informed that the department has served closure notice to every saw mills illegally operating in the state of Meghalaya. The Forest Department has however exempted those sawmills operating in Industrial area belonging to the state government as they have proper licence. According to sources, the department has so far completed serving notices to those sawmill operating in Khasi and Ri Bhoi district.

The department has also started to serve closure notices towards those sawmills operating illegally in West Khasi Hill (WKH) district.

The department has asserted that those sawmills operating outside the Industrial areas, closure notice will be handed to them.
