A CORRESPONDENT

LAKHIMPUR, April 20: Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) came out on the streets again demanding the closure of Lower Subansiri Hydro-Electric Project (LSHEP) being constructed by NHPC at Gerukamukh of Dhemaji district. The Lakhimpur district unit of the organization welcomed the latest stand of the Green Tribunal regarding the big dam in one hand and condemned the State and Union governments on the other hand. The organization warned the governments to abide by the orders of the Green Tribunal and alleged that both governments had framed trivial tricks to generate hydro-electric through the controversial big dam. Protesting against it, the organization burnt the effigies of Prime Minister, Union Power Minister, State Chief Minister and NHPC authority in  North Lakhimpur town. The organization informed the media that its activists would keep a close watch on NHPC regarding the application of the green Tribunal’s instructions regarding the big dam.
