FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

Itagar, May 8: Aruchal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has appreciated Tirap district administration for its prompt action against illegal mining in the district by making two arrests so far.

“Enough of resilience has been adopted. It is time that we initiate prompt action against such illegal activities so that our rich resource is preserved and there is no leakage of revenue,” Khandu said sending strong sigls against illegal activities.

After learning about a reported illegal extraction of river bed material by some miscreants from neighbouring Assam at Mopaya in Tirap district, Khandu had directed the concerned DC and SP to immediately verify the matter and initiate strict action against the persons involved.

He had also issued specific directives to the DC and SP to find out whether any Government officers, staff or police personnel are involved in the illegal act, an official release informed.

If found they should be immediately taken to task, Khandu had directed. “Tirap DC Ravi Jha has done a commendable job by arresting two people in connection to the illegal extraction of river bed materials at Mopaya and also seizing machines used for the illegal purpose,” the chief minister said. He also appreciated the DC’s effort for taking into confidence the Assam counterpart during the entire exercise. The chief minister asked all the deputy commissioners to be extra vigilant to check illegal activities of any sort and initiate prompt actions as per laid down rules and regulations. He also asked the DCs to engage the field officers who have been assigned to keep close vigil over such practices and make them answerable to the authority if any kind of such incident reoccurs in near future, the release added.
