CM assures equal rights and freedom to women

Itagar, Sept 21: Aruchal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has assured to extend cooperation to all women’s welfare activities being taken up by the Aruchal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW).

APSCW members led by its chairman Mitali Tingkhatra had called on the chief minister here on Tuesday to request support of the government in carrying out welfare programmes for women across the state, an official report informed here today.

Acknowledging the important role played by women in tribal society, Khandu said that due to their pivotal role in contributing to the economy and well being of the family, they command high respect and honour in the society.

“The state government will take full measures to guarantee that women are assured equal right and freedom to pursue their dreams,” he said.

As measures to encourage women welfare activities, the chief minister promised to instruct the respective district administrations and departments to extend full cooperation to the women commission in its programmes and activities wherever and whenever needed.

He also assured the support of the government to work out additiol grant to the women commission for taking up issues of child rights and welfare activities for children.

Announcing further measures, the chief minister said the state government would also work on opening of more juvenile centers and shelter homes for women in the state.

To encourage marriage registration, Khandu, on suggestion from the Commission, assured to work out on reducing the marriage registration fee.

Further the women commission suggested the state government for legislation on marriage, which, it asserted, will eble the wives to seek maintence cost, the report added.
