CM attends Deuri Sahitya Sabha meet in Majuli

MAJULI, Jan 30: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal on Tuesday attended the 33rd biennial conference of Deuri Sahitya Sabha at Ramakanta Deuri Samanwoi Kshetra, Major Deuri Gaon at Majuli. Saying that greater Assamese race is an amalgamation and assimilation of various tribes and communities and Assamese society cannot develop without the equal development of all these groups of people, the Chief Minister called for preservation of language, literature and culture of all tribes and communities for strengthening Assamese identity.  Recalling the Deuri tribe’s legendary figure Bhimbar Deuri’s contribution in protecting Assam along with Gopith Bordoloi during grouping phase, Sonowal asserted that Deuris are the one of the main indigenous tribes of Assam and they have been contributing to the progress and development of the state as sons of the soil. Calling for steadfast dedication to achieve all-round development of all tribes and communities of the land, Sonowal said that the characteristic of unity in diversity of Assamese society must be protected at any cost and youth must be motivated to maintain age old harmony of the state for achieving rapid development, stated a press release.
