CM attends funeral of Se

Itagar, January 27: Aruchal Pradesh Chief Minister bam Tuki accompanied by his cabinet colleagues today attended the last rites of former Speaker Setong Se who died in a private hospital in Assam’s Dibrugarh district on January 25 last. Tuki air–dashed to Jairampur, the tive place of the departed soul in Changlang district this morning, official sources informed.

A pall of gloom descends over the Jairampur township as the flames engulf the mortal remains of the former minister. Se died on Sunday night following Hepatitis.

The 54–year–old leader, undergoing treatment at Aditya Hospital in Dibrugarh for the last couple of days died around 11 pm. He is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters. His family was by his side at the time of his death.

A four–time MLA from mpong constituency in Changlang district, Se was defeated by his PA Laisam Simai from BJP in the last year’s assembly election.

Always considered a key man among the chief ministers, Se held many important portfolios such as fince, power (electrical), environment, horticulture & agriculture. He was also the speaker for one full term.

He served as ministers under various chief ministers including Gegong Apang, Mukut Mithi, Dorjee Khandu, Jarbom Gamlin and bam Tuki.

Meanwhile, state governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma mourned the sudden demise of the former minister and speaker.

In his condolence message, the Governor said that in the demise of Se, the state has lost one of the few great Parliamentarian and adept administrator. Se, with grace and elegance had immensely contributed lots towards the development of the state in various capacities particularly as the Speaker of State Legislative Assembly and Cabinet minister.  His strong sense of social commitment for the upliftment of the under–privileged and the down–trodden had touched hearts of people.

Conveying sincere and heartfelt condolence and praying for eterl peace of the departed soul, the governor said that one of the most respected leaders of Changlang, Tirap and Longding, Se left his mark through his various initiatives, including Pangsau Pass Festival, revival of Stillwell Road and revamping agriculture and allied sectors.

People of the state will always cherish his inerasable contributions and his gracious approach, the governor added.
