CM calls on people to play their role in protecting Assamese identity

Barpeta, Nov 15: “Some forces inimical to the society are trying to foment trouble and discord among the people in the State. We all must defeat their evil designs by staying united. We must play our role to protect the identity and dignity of the greater Assamese race.” Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal on Wednesday said while speaking at a programme patronised by Barpeta Xatra for presenting the Sri Sri Mathura Das Burha Ata Award and conferring the title of ‘Satrabhushan’ at the auditorium of Barpeta District Library.        

In the programme presided over by Burha Satriya of Barpeta Xatra Basistha Deb Sarma, Chief Minister Sonowal presented Sri Sri Mathura Das Burha Ata Award to renowned litterateur of the State Dr. Lakhmi ndan Bora and conferred the title of ‘Satrabhushan’ on distinguished Xatriya art exponent Jaganth Bayan.

The Chief minister said that though the Xatras have been imparting knowledge to strengthen the Assamese identity and uphold its dignity, but knowledge has not been properly utilised so far.  “With the spiritual knowledge and transcendental values imparted by these xatras, we must defeat all those forces trying to weaken the Assamese society”, he stated.  

Saying that people face lots of problems today because of being devoid of Gurujo’s ideals, Sonowal urged the people to imbibe the spiritual and moral values of Gurujo to overcome the challenges faced by the Assamese society and strengthen the fight against the evil forces. The society envisioned by Gurujo on the basis of intellectual, cultural and spiritual values must be realised and people from all sections of the society must participate in this process, he said. Housefed Chairman and Local MLA of Sarbhog Ranjit Dass, MLAs Gunindra th Das, rayan Deka, Ashok Sarma, Deka Satriya bajit Das, DC Barpeta were also present in the meeting.
