CM distributes free LPG cylinders to beneficiaries under PMUY

Diphu, Oct 18: “The three hilly districts of Assam, Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao are endowed with rich human and tural resources. These districts hold tremendous potential for growth. If we could successfully channelize their potential, they will play a catalytic role in the development of the State,” Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal said while taking part as chief guest in the free LPG cylinder distribution programme to beneficiaries under Prandhan Mantri Ujjwala Yoja held at Joising Doloi Memorial Auditorium at Diphu on Wednesday.

Stating that the development of the State can’t be complete without the growth of the hilly district, the Chief Minister vowed to work resolutely to strengthen the infrastructure of these districts. He informed that Rs. 500 crore would be invested for improvement of surface communication in the three hilly districts under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yoja. He also expressed State government’s commitment to give a new dimension to the education, health and other sectors of the hilly districts. The Chief Minister extolled the rich cultural heritage of the State and urged the people to work unitedly for building a stronger and prosperous Assam.

Appreciating Prime Minister rendra Modi’s vision for giving a new impetus to the growth of Northeast through the Act East Policy, he mentioned that the PM terms NE as the new engine of growth of India. He also made a call to the people to join government initiatives to effectively implement the Policy for realising the vision of the Prime Minister to ensure expeditious growth of the region and giving a new identity to Northeast in the world platform.

Further saying that the Prime Minister has launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yoja to offer a life of dignity to the women of the poor families, he underlined the role of women in tion building. He also mentioned that a series of activities have been launched by the State government to improve the condition of the women and emphasised on the need to make them equal partners in the development initiatives. He pinned hope that the PMUY would also help women to live a healthy life.

Sonowal also highlighted the role that the youth can play in the progress of a tion and mentioned that government is taking various measures to develop them as able citizens. He also referred to the Gutsav as a novel initiative for introducing quality improvement in the education sector. The Chief Minister called upon the teachers, parents and the students to work in close coordition for revolutionizing the academic environment of the state. MLAs Sum Ronghang, Dr. Numal Momin and host of other dignitaries were present in the programme.
