CM kicks off Chief Minister's Tea Tribes' soccer

GUWAHATI, Jan 17: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal ceremonially iugurated the Chief Minister’s Tea Tribes’ Football Tourment 2017-18 at a programme held at Deshabhakta Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor Stadium today. The chief minister also unveiled the winner’s cup of the tourment. The programme also witnessed the release of Theme song of the tourment.

More than 750 tea gardens from 80 Assembly Constituencies will be the part of this competition and a total of 2000 teams are expected to be participated in the meet.

In a brief Speech in the function Sonowal stated that sports symbolises friendship, camaraderie and universal brotherhood. Dedication, determition, discipline and hard labour are the inherent tenets of sports.

Chief Minister also said that identifying sporting talents from within the tea community is one of the key focus areas of the Government and this tourment will make the job easy.

"Tea Tribes’ Football Tourment has been started with this aim to spot talents from the interior tea garden areas and those talented footballers will be trained at the sports school which will be set up by the government, " said Sonowal.

He also announced that the players from the filist teams would be taken on exposure tours to major sports hubs of the country and provided opportunity for interaction with the renowned football coaches.

The chief minister also urged the tea garden owners and magement to wholeheartedly participate in this process of identifying and nurturing sports talents for the state and expressed hope that this tourment would bring about a lot of enthusiasm among tea tribe youths for making sports a way of their lives.

Minister of State for Tea Tribes Welfare Department Pallab Lochan Das, MLAs Sanjay Kishan, Teras Gowala and many other dignitaries attended the function.
