CM launches scheme to double farm income

Rs 30,000 crore outlay for CMSGUY, all villages in the State to be holistically developed by 2021-22

GUWAHATI, Feb 5: With a vision to holistically develop villages of Assam, Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal on Sunday launched the Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unyan Yoja (CMSGUY) at a function held at Sri Sri Madhavdev Intertiol Auditorium of Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in the city.

It may be mentioned that the scheme was one of the announcements in the State Budget 2016-17.

The CMSGUY, a mega mission with fincial outlay of Rs 30,000 crore, will be implemented in all the villages of the State in the next five years till 2021-22. The programme will be implemented on ‘saturation model’ by covering each revenue village through focused interventions in direct economic activities, logistic support including market linkages, and community support.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said that the mission is aimed at bringing in revolutiory changes by doubling farm income in the State. As per Situation Assessment Survey from 2002-03 to 2012-13, the farm income in Assam was recorded as only 0.88 per cent against the tiol average of 5.2 per cent.

He said his government has decided to launch CMSGUY to put in concerted efforts in time-bound manner by facilitating massive investments in rural areas for complete rural transformation in 5 years to stimulate rural productivity.

Referring to Father of the tion Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of lending dignified life to all living in villages, Sonowal said that the scheme has been designed to bring in holistic development of villages and lend dignity to the people living in rural areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Fince Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the scheme has the potential to usher in a new horizon of development so that farm income of the State becomes double by 2021-22, which will also happen to be the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence.

Deputy Speaker Dilip Kumar Paul, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Irrigation Minister Ranjit Dutta, Power Minister Pallab Lochan Das, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister ba Kumar Dolley, MP R.P. Sharma, CM’s Media Advisor Hrishikesh Goswami, Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia and several MLAs were present on the occasion.
