CM lays foundation stone for five new roads under PMGSY at Amarpur

Sadiya, Nov 12: Reiterating State Government’s commitment to boost rural infrastructure, Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal on Sunday laid the foundation stone for construction of five roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yoja (PMGSY) with an expenditure of Rs. 18 crore at Amarpur under Sadiya Sub-Division in Tinsukia district.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that communication bottleneck is a measure hindrance to development at Amarpur. “Inspite of having tremendous tural beauty and fertile land, the development of Amarpur is severely hampered by poor road connectivity. Government of Assam gives special emphasis to upgrade surface communication and other areas to give impetus to development of Amarpur,” Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal said this adding that he has already directed the PWD department to carry out survey to study the feasibility of construction of road connecting Joi-Amarpur-Sadiya. Sonowal also announced that the lnland Water Transport Department has been directed to set up a permanent ferry ghat to ease out vigation through Dibang river which connects Amarpur with Sadiya.

Stating that State Government would construct a guest house providing accommodation to Government Officials and tourists visiting the place, the Chief Minister declared that all out efforts would be made to solve the problems faced by the people of Amarpur including posting of regular doctor and nurses at the local health center. The Chief Minister further said that for successful implementation of Government programme,  people’s participation is of utmost importance and he called upon the people to keep close watch on implementation of Government schemes.

Moreover, the Chief Minister also came down heavily against the previous Congress government and mentioned that its misrule and corruption had severely affected the state economy and development. Saying that the Congress party has lost their moral ground to criticise the BJP led Assam Government for its activities, Sonowal further urged the Congress party to observe repentance day for its misrule.

While MLA Sadiya Balin Chetia delivered the welcome speech, the meeting was also addressed by MP Lakhimpur Pradan Baruah, MLA Dhemaji Dr. Ranoj Pegu and Chief Executive Member of Mising Autonomous Council Paramanda Chayengia. The Mising Autonomous Council Chief in his speech announced that the council would take up projects worth Rs. 1 crore for development of Amarpur.

On the occasion, the Amarpur Sarbadaliya Aikya Mancha submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister with demands for solution of several long pending issues of the area.  Deputy Commission Tinsukia Oim Sarankumar Sing, Superintendent of Police, SDO Civil Sadiya, several executive members of Mising Autonomous Council and host of other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
