Guwahati, July 8: Chief Minister on Sunday laid the foundation stone of the residential apartments christened as Rang Homes to be constructed by Indo Group under PMAY (Urban ) at Garal in Guwahati.
Speaking on empowerment of the weaker sections of the society, Sonowal said that the nation can emerge as a strong one if only the weaker sections gain strength. In this respect he said that the PM has launched a journey to strengthen the weaker sections of the society with schemes to empower the weak, specially abled and women and that the same is accorded top priority by the state government.
The Chief Minister said that presently Guwahati is not just the gateway of the NE but that steps are been initiated to make the city the gateway also of the entire South-East Asian region. Hence, he said that the necessary atmosphere to be engaged in areas like commerce, tourism and education with South-East Asian countries has been taken. In this context the Act East Police is playing a major role, he added.
Meanwhile, the state government has taken the decision towards the formation of State Capital Region while the extension of the city is on the anvil, he informed. He also appealed to the business community to cooperate with the government in keeping the city clean and green. Further, the government has also initiated steps to improve the infrastructure of the city, he said, adding that the PMAY (Urban ) scheme will provide housing to the city dwellers with minimum income.
