CM must quit, says Aruchal RTI activist

FROM A CORRESPONDENT
New Delhi, Nov 2: Accusing Aruchal Pradesh Chief Minister bam Tuki of involving into a massive scam amounting Rs 600 crore, Aruchal Justice Forum on Monday demanded the former’s resigtion. “The CM is not above the law, so he must quit,” said Forum member and RTI activist bam Tagam.  Interestingly in August, the Gauhati High Court has ordered a CBI enquiry against bam Tuki after Tagam filled several cases against the Chief Minister. Immediately after the High Court ordered for an enquiry by the investigating agency, Tuki has filled Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court. “Why is he so afraid of the probe, if he is clean and has nothing to do with the allegations…we have filled for a stay order challenging the SLP in the apex court,” said Tagam. “The disease of corruption in our state has spread and increased manifolds in recent days. It compounded further under the Chief Ministership of bam Tuki as it become more rampant with unprecedented and unchecked growth in the functioning of the government. Instances of gross corruption, misuse and fraudulent appropriation of tax-payers money saw a drastic increase affecting the development and progress of the state,” said Tagam. The RTI activist accused Tuki of awarding government contracts running into crore of rupees to his wife, two brothers, sister-in-laws, brother-in-law and their enterprises or firms without observing the codal formalities like tender. He also accused Tuki of gross-misuse of public funds and funds provided by the centre under SDRF & NDRF to the state government running into crores of rupees. “Instead of giving preference and prioritizing on the welfare of the citizen and economic development of the state, Tuki is rather more focused in his own personnel interest affecting the poor and innocent tribal inhabitants of the state which needed to be checked controlled immediately or else the epidemic of corruption will swallow the whole state creating absolute lawlessness and jungle raj in the state,” said Tagam.
