CM presses for fair compensation

ITAGAR, Aug 3: Aruchal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has urged the Defence Ministry to ensure granting fair compensation as required by the law to the local community while acquiring the land for defence purposes.

The chief minister made the remark during a discussion with Defence Joint Secretary (Works & Land) Manish Thakur here today on land use for defence purposes, which was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Chow Mein and Chief Secretary Shakuntala Doley Gamlin.

Khandu urged that the livelihood issues of the people should be taken into account when acquiring land so that a balance is achieved and keeping country’s security interest high while the interests of the community are secured, an official communiqué informed. The chief minister appealed the defence ministry for dual use of the eight Advance Landing Grounds (ALG) at Ziro, Aalo, Mechukha, Pasighat, Walong, Vijaygar and Tezu to be used both for civilian and defence purposes to eble effective connectivity, which would give a boost to tourism and economic development and could prove crucial during emergency medical cases and tural calamities.
