Dibrugarh, Nov 13: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal attended a meeting on Sunday that was organized to check the progress of the arrangements being made for the forthcoming Assam Labours’ Day celebrations to be held throughout the Dibrugarh district on November 23.

The occasion will coincide with the birth date of the leader of the tea tribes community, Santosh Kumar Tap. Speaking at the meeting that took place at the DC office, Sonowal praised the efforts of Tap towards creating awareness among the tea tribes of Assam regarding their rights and promoting the value of education among the tea workers.

Sonowal said that public should be made aware of the contributions of Tap, and as such, ordered the district administrators to take necessary steps to this effect. He added that the Assam Government had decided to observe Assam Labours’ Day every year from this year onwards in recognition of the labourers of the tea gardens as well as the workers of the unorganized sector.
