Shillong, Nov 14:  Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Monday sung an invoking religious song to conclude his words of assertion on what he has done to draws the tourists to the state. In his speech at an official programme held at Polo ground here, he thanked the stakeholders and people for taking all possible steps to attract tourists to the State. “I told a group of jourlists in the country capital to tell the people to come to Shillong and Meghalaya to free them from pollution”. “They should come to our place to free from those pollutants, recharge themselves and be more productive.”  “Productivity is under threat due to health reasons and this cannot make the State healthy,” stated Sangma.

Yet he forgets that the state has come under scanner especially from the NGT for varied hazardous breach of environmental clause. Prominent amongst those is the unscientific coal and limestone mining in the State.

Even as he spoke about a polluted environment will lead to disorder, what about the economic disorder due to wanton destruction of environment and unscientific exploitation of tural resources.

Fortutely, the tiol Green Tribul (NGT) stepped in, stated an observer on condition of anonymity.

Sangma finished his speech with reverberating religious song by thanking the almighty- How great thy Art.
