From a Correspondent

Donkamokam, November 10: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, while campaigning for BJP candidate Dr Mansing Rongpi at Kheroni in West Karbi Anglong on Thursday, said that unity and peace were a must and if people worked together, they could built a beautiful greater Assamese society.

“Assam is rich in resources and at the same time it is fertile, has potential in tourism and has many talented youths. But we have failed to utilize these resources and so the government has planned several schemes soon so that maximum utilization of the resources can be done,” said the Chief Minister.

Criticizing the Congress, he further said that they were given chance by people for several decades but no steps were taken to utilize the resources and hence the unemployment problem cropped up. “Full security to each and every citizen of Karbi Anglong will be given by us and at the same time, the fight against corruption will also continue,” Sonowal added.

State Education and Fince Minister Dr Himanta Bishwa Sharma said that BJP’s fight against Bangladeshi Muslims who had settled illegally in Assam would continue. Taking a dig at former minister Rokibul Hussain, Sarma said that Hussain was an ‘expert in lying’.

“BJP thinks about the development of all tribes and hence several tribes such as Tiwa, Rabha, Garo and Mishing now have representation in the assembly,” Sarma said and added, “Tarun Gogoi never visited West Karbi Anglong when Dr Mansing Rongpi filed nomition during Congress regime but this time Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal accompanied him which shows that the Chief Minister cares for Karbi Anglong.”

Slamming former MP Dr Jayanta Rongpi, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he was the one who destroyed Karbi Anglong in those days by creating confusion and jealousy among Karbis. “MP Biren Singh Engti never raised a question about autonomous state for Karbi Anglong in his 15 years as a parliamentarian and till now he sleeps in the Parliament, which shows that he is incapable as leader,” Sarma further said. “BJP never plays family politics like the Congress and that is why a tea seller became the Prime Minister of our country,” he added.

The minister announced that a hills university would be opened soon for Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao students.

State Water Resource Minister Keshab Mahanta said that soon 25,000 villages in Assam would be benefitted by development in agriculture and information technology.

KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang in his speech demanded speedy implementation of Article 244, that is, autonomous state for Karbi Anglong.

MLAs Pijush Hazarika, Amarsingh Jain, Rupak Sharma, Dr Numol Momin and Sum Ronghang and all EMs of KAAC were present.
