Dibrugarh, Nov 13: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal attended the Sonowal Kachari citizens’ meeting organized by the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council at Dibrugarh District Library on Sunday. Addressing the gathering, Sonowal said that the development of the members of the various Scheduled Tribes of Assam would not be possible unless the funds released by the government to every autonomous council of the State were used in a properly planned manner. He emphasized the fact that in order to establish Assam as a leading State tiolly as well as globally, all the people of Assam, including the various Scheduled Tribes, would have to make equal contribution. But for that, these Scheduled Tribes would have to become a force to reckon with.
Sonowal said that the various autonomous councils of the State, including the Sonowal Kachari community, should strive to study the respective problems afflicting them and find a scientific solution to each one of them. He also specified that due to lack of devotion and dedication among many autonomous councils, a large section of the various Scheduled Tribes of the State was still lagging behind. Adding that the State Government was committed towards giving all the members of the various Scheduled Tribes a life of dignity, he appealed to all the autonomous councils to prepare a scientifically-driven plan to solve their respective problems.
Assuring that the State Government would extend help to all the autonomous councils in this respect, Sonowal urged the representatives of these councils to interact with the public and take their views as to why the members of the Scheduled Tribes were not making enough progress in the economical, social and cultural domain. He also appealed to the councils to make efforts towards spotting talented village children and helping them move ahead in their life. Sonowal also laid the foundation stone for the guest house that would be constructed by the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council at Rs 8.61 crore. The meeting was also attended by State Power and Labour Minister Pallab Lochan Das, MPs, Rameshwar Teli, Prodan Baruah and Kamakhya Tasa DC Laya Madduri and others.
