CM visits Majuli to take part in Raax festivity

Jorhat, November 15: The people of Majuli organized Raax festival in 59 places of the island, including several xatras.

The Raax festival in the Vaishvite hub of Majuli started in bright colours since Sunday. Xatras like Samoguri, Dakhinpaat, Auniati, Garmur, Uttar Kamalabari, tun Kamalabari, Bhogpur, Bengeati, rasingha and Bihimpur, organized the festival and each follows its own customs and traditions. Several communities like the Mishings, Deuris and Motoks also organized Raax festival across Majuli. The Auniati Xatra also organized ‘Paal am’ which ended on Tuesday.

Auniati Xatradhikar Pitambor Deva Goswami said, “We have organized both Raax and Paal am at our xatra premises with traditiol custom and rituals. Tourists from India and abroad are visiting the island during this festive season. The Chief Minister also took part in our programmes on Tuesday.”

Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal visited Majuli with a two-day long programme on Tuesday. Sonowal enjoyed Raax festival in Majuli on Tuesday evening.

The Chief Minister also took part in two election rallies in Jengrai and Balichapori during his first by-poll campaign in his constituency. Sonowal, who was accompanied by his cabinet colleagues Himanta Biswa Sarma, Keshab Mahanta and Ranjit Dutta, along with two MLAs Bimal Borah and Rupak Sarmah, appealed to the people of Majuli to vote for the BJP.

Sonowal visited Raax pandals in five xatras of Dakhinpat, Auniati, Kamalabari, Garmur Saru and Garmur Bor.

The district administration announced local holiday in Majuli district on Tuesday on account of Raax festival. The Raax is the biggest festival in the island.
