MANGALDAI, May 1: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal has vowed for a new Assam free from burning problems like immigration, insurgency, corruption and pollution. He, as the chief guest, was addressing the open session of the two-day conference of the Darrangi Kala-Kristi Unyan Sangha, a pioneer non-government cultural organization of the district, on Sunday afternoon at village Holouchouka-Ahoka, few kilometers from here.

Pointing out illegal immigrants, insurgency, pollution and corruption as the main barriers for the development of the State, the Chief Minister said, “We have decided to arrive at four points i.e. immigrants-free Assam, insurgency-free Assam, pollution-free Assam and corruption-free Assam. These are the major four walls which prohibit Assam from the path of prosperity and if we can arrive at these four points, no one can stop Assam from all-round prosperity.”

Referring to the age-old folk culture and traditiol values of various ethnic groups of the State, the Chief Minister observed that Assam was yet to be explored properly. “If we are to establish Assam as a strong State outside the world through justification, then the new generation must explore the social, cultural, economic and spiritual resources and potentiality of each and every ethnic group across the State through necessary scientific studies,” he added. He also laid stress on the need of creating an environment full of peace, brotherhood and commul harmony through the culture of traditiol music and to help the State to grow together. He also assured the people of Darrang of extending necessary support in taking one of the rich components of the performing folklore of Assam Ojapali not only to the tiol level but also to the intertiol level.

The Chief Minister, who arrived at the meeting venue at about 4-30 pm by road, was earlier offered felicitation with traditiol xarai, japi, cheleng sadar and gamosa by legislator of  Mangaldai, Gurujyoti Das on behalf of the reception committee in presence of Sipajhar legislator Binda Kr Saikia and Kamalpur legislator Satyabrata Kalita.

Meanwhile, the intolerance shown by a section of security personnel towards the local media persons in presence of the Chief Minister while intercepting him for an interview on camera has widely been resented among the media fraternity here.
