CM’s statement is misleading

FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, Jan 29: The social organisation TUR on Sunday felt that Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s statement that people ought to have faith in the police as well as the investigation process and that HDR Lyngdoh has not done anything wrong is but an attempt to mislead the public.

“How can people have faith in the investigation into the trafficking of a young girl in Marvelene Inn when this inn is owned and run by HDR Lyngdoh’s son and wife? Being the Home Minister, all files of the investigation are directly accessible by him. Further, investigation into the magement and staff of this inn was not even initiated till an FIR was filed by TUR and CSWO,” TUR said in a statement issued here on Sunday.

Stating that on January 19, newspapers reported that 3 more persons were arrested in connection with sexually exploiting this minor in the very same Marvelene Inn, TUR said this is reason enough for the inn to be completely shut down, all owners, magement and staff to be thoroughly investigated.

The organisation observed that Marvelene inn seems to be a habitual place and a den where such incidents regularly take place.

“We demand stepping down by HDR Lyngdoh,” said member of TUR Angela Rang said.

TUR condemns Mukul Sangma, the BJP and others for belittling women and children’s safety as being a mere party political game.
