CMSS activists protest against Digboi MLA

MARGHERITA, Dec 28: Chaatra Mukti Sangram Samiti (CMSS), Tinsukia District Committee and Digboi Regiol Committee, on Monday protested in front of the residence of Digboi MLA Rameswar Dhanowar. More than 200 CMSS activists took part in the protest. Lakhyajyoti Gogoi and Pappu Dutta, president of CMSS Tinsukia District Committee, said, “Rameswar Dhanowar has been representing Digboi for 38 years but there has been little development in the constituency. The unemployment problem has not been solved, people are not getting proper water supply, the infrastructure of government educatiol institutions has not been development, roads are in a pathetic condition and there has also been no development of the tea tribe community people.”

They also alleged that Dhanowar started RD Junior College and RD English Academy on agricultural land. Margherita Sub Divisiol Officer (C) received a memorandum from the CMSS leaders which had three demands. The student body has demanded that Dhanowar should publicly announce where and how much fund were utilized during his term as legislator and also minister, measures should be taken to check alleged corruption in all government departments in Digboi and the two educatiol institutions RD Junior College and RD English Academy should be closed down.

CMSS activists alleged that as they were returning after the protest programme, Rameswar Dhanowar sent some Congress goons who were holding placards and shouting slogans against Akhil Gogoi and CMSS. The CMSS leaders further alleged that Digboi Police arrested CMSS activists and promulgated Section 144.  “After an hour we were released. If our demands are not fulfilled soon, we will intensify our agitation against Rameswar Dhanowar,” said Lakhyajyoti Gogoi.
