CMSS demands protection of tural resources

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

MARGHERITA, Jan 8: The Chaatra Mukti Sangram Samity’s Margherita regiol committee today submitted a memorandum to Margherita Sub Divisiol officer (Civil) demanding protection of tural and forest resources such as oil, precious trees, coal, sand, stilt and stone of Margherita Region which are on the verge of extinction. Pappu Dutta, president of Chaatra Mukti Sangram Samity’s Margherita regiol committee said that abundance of mineral and forest resources such as oil, coal, trees, sand, stilt and stone were available in the area but today these resources are openly looted by outsider businessman with the support from some people with vested interest. He alleged Forest Department turning a blind eye to this because a section of officials of the department get huge commission from them. He said that the illegal trade of coal, sand, stilt and stone must be stopped immediately at Margherita. Dutta also alleged that different saw mills in Margherita have engaged workers in the mills at a very low wage. “If our demands are not fulfilled within 15 days, we will intensify strong agitation against it,” said Dutta.
