Coach Enrique ready for party after Barcelo win La Liga title

Barcelo, May 15: FC Barcelo head coach Luis Enrique is looking forward to a party after the Catalan football giants won 3-0 away over Grada on Saturday to claim the La Liga title.

Luis Suarez’s hat-trick in the Los Carmenes stadium was enough to start the celebrations as Barcelo retained the title they won last season and which they have won six times in the last eight years, reports Xinhua.

Barcelo finished with 91 points, while Real Madrid, who won 2-0 over Deportivo La Caru were one point behind in second place. Atletico Madrid claimed the third spot with 88 points after a 2-0 win over Celta Vigo in the fil game.

“I am a bit boring, but I hope the players have a big party and although I am 46 years old, I will do my best to adapt and have a good time,” joked the coach.

The coach also said he would “remember the people who have supported me in the difficult times and the fans who have always been with us”.

He said he was pleased with his side’s display in a game in which they “controlled all of the phases of play. It seems as if we knew how to play the game and I thought we played well”.

Barcelo had momentarily trailed Real Madrid in the table after Cristiano Roldo had put Madrid ahead away to Deportivo la Coru, but Suarez’s first goal in the 21st minute, put the Catalans back on top.

“Once we had taken a 1-0 lead we had to maintain a structure which allowed us to keep the ball and pressure our rivals. We were able to control their attacks and also their set pieces,” said Enrique.

Filly the Barcelo coach insisted that Grada, who avoided relegation with a 4-1 win in Sevilla last weekend, had tried their best to beat them.

“Grada had achieved their objective and they went out to play their game. It was difficult for us to win and we needed to score as soon as possible, which fortutely is what happened,” he explained.

Barcelo defender Gerard Pique also highlighted the importance of the 24th league title in the club’s history.

“This is an important moment for the club. Nobody has ever won six titles from a possible eight,” commented Pique. IANS
